Stevens, piano
Recognized as a leading piano
soloist and chamber musician throughout the U.S., Delores Stevens has
also performed abroad in recent years as a soloist in Spain and the
Czech Republic and with ensembles in Japan, China, Argentina, and
Australia.
In the U.S. her consistent
support of contemporary composers by commissioning, premiering, and
regularly performing new composition has led to a prestigious award
from the National Association of Composers (NACUSA) for her
"Achievements as one of the most important artists to further the cause
and influence of contemporary music."
Ms. Stevens most recent
recognition came from the International Music Fraternity of Mo Phi
Epsilon which presented her with the Presidential Award of Merit.
In her early career she was a
member of the Coleman Chamber Music Award-winning Padorr Trio, the
signed with Columbia Artists and began extensive tours of the U.S. and
Europe. In 1971, the trio formed Chilmark Chamber Concerts which
has since evolved into the Martha's Vineyard Chamber Music
Society. She has been the sole artistic Director of MVCMS since
2003.
Her work as Director of
Chamber Music for both the Young Musicians Foundation and Mount St.
Mary's College and as the former Head of Piano Studies at California
State University at Dominquez Hills is testimony to her long standing
interest in helping today's young generation to find its way into the
complex world of classical music.
Beyond live performances and
academia, her involvement in the recording industry has included
multiple terms as Director and Trustee of the Recording Academy
Producers of the "Grammy Awards" and performances for more than ten
different classical labels including several recordings that have been
completed and will soon be released.
